Incompatibilities
January 19th, 2009The Inspiron 5100 seems picky about what type of memory it accepts. It holds a maximum of two, 512 MB sticks of PC2100 RAM (266 MHz). Flashing the laptop BIOS with revision A31 of later, allegedly makes it compatible with PC2700 RAM (333 MHz), making the memory operate at a slower speed.
Unfortunately, the above Kingston Value PC2700 RAM isn’t compatible. When you turn the laptop on, you’ll hear the fans power up and see two lights blink a few times before the entire thing powers down.
